This tour features cover crops, organic and conventional crop production methods, and machinery technology.Ī farm-style lunch featuring Illinois-grown foods will be provided at noon. Participants will also learn the impact of GPS, fertilizers, pesticides, and biotechnology on farm sustainability. A few miles away, three generations of Sanderson’s ─ Gerry, sons Dan and Dale, and grandsons Trent and Kurt ─ will show their varied facets of farm stewardship. Visitors will see animal care in the beef feedlot setting, crop production technology, farm machinery and grain handling. It starts at the DeKalb County Farm Bureau in Sycamore where people will meet and travel via a motor coach to the Jones and Sanderson farms near Clare. There is a morning and afternoon tour, both lasting approximately 5 hours. The Farm & Food Field Trip is Saturday, July 22, 2017.
